Flip Video WiFi Meets The TV!

Now Flip brings to us new FlipShare 5.0 software and a wifi device that delivers the flip videos on your computer hard drive to your TV screen are announced today by Cisco, the parent company. Normally we view disruption as being a software and media moniker, but the Flip camera’s supremacy of the camcorder charts has been pretty mind-blowing.

You know how fast digital video stacks up pretty quickly on your computers - you’ll quickly fill up hard drives - so having a Flickr style archiving solution is an ituitive addition. Using the FlipShare 5.0 software Cisco are providing you the ability to upload your video in your own ‘channels’ which you can then choose to share with other viewers by granting access to view.
With so many of those Flip cameras out there, they are producing enormous amounts of digital data, with over 10 million videos shared so to date. Just hook up a Flip Ultra HD camera to a TV with an HDMI cable but that’s limited to what’s on the camcorder device.

Did you know with the $150 msrp TV device you can lean back on your couch and watch the stored Flip video contents on whichever computer you plug the wifi dongle into, so your friend with a laptop of skateboarding videos could captivate the room with their footage for a while, then Jane could share the contents of her notebooks’s saved video footage of her recent rainforest expedition. This provides a more laid back on the couch, less nerdy intuitive audio visual experience for the user.

Having the ability to plug your Flip video camera into your usb port and upload to Facebook, YouTube and MySpace the new FlipShare 5.0 software provides instant video sharing to smart phones with the inception of the FlipShare mobile app for iPhone, Blackberry™ and Android™ smart phones.

The uses are endless, from recording and archiving business meetings and presentations to attaching Flip cameras to machinery to detect problems, and more entertainingly to race cars to keep track of performance - there is a unlimited variety of uses for sharing HD video.

All of the Flip range is heavily marketed towards consumers - and Cisco claim is a top three youth brand along with Apple and the Wii - but the applications and price points make all forms of the product range very useful business collaboration tools as well.

I've owned my Flip Ultra for about 6 months now and couldn't be happier with it. I use mine all the time to film whatever and send to my dad who lives in another state. The quality of the videos certainly exceed my expectations for a sub $200 video cam. The ease of use is perfect for my usages. I rarely take pictures with my digital camera as the Flip is what gets used nowadays. I had picked up a newly released Kodak cam recently for my dad and returned it and instead got him a Flip Ultra as there was no comparison in overall quality and ease of use. My dad felt the same way. Great product and highly recommended.
